About Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology

The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology is a higher education institute located on Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria. It is a monotechnic approved by the National Board for Technical Education.

The College was instituted in 1969 as a vocational training institute and assumed the name FEDERAL COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND MARINE TECHNOLOGY (F.C.F.M.T) its present status in 1992.

The Institution has the Mandate to train middle-level manpower in the areas of Fisheries Technology (Freshwater, Brackish and Marine), including aquaculture, fish processing & fishing gear design & construction.

Another aspect of the mandate is to train deep-sea fishermen to handle Dermasal and Pelagic ships, and interwoven training of Maritime professionals (Traditional seafarers and Shore managers). READ MORE

FCFMT Courses and Admission Requirements

– Maritime Transport and Business Management (HND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission requirements into the HND in Maritime Transport and Business Management shall include:

  • A minimum of Lower Credit passes in the ND in Maritime Transport and Business Management.
  • Admission requirements into the ND in Maritime Transport and Business Management.
  • A minimum of one year cognate work experience after obtaining the National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Studies, if the applicant obtained at least a Lower Credit.
  • A minimum of two years cognate work experience if the applicant obtained a passing grade in the National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Studies.

– Maritime Transport and Business Studies (ND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the ND MTBS programme is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

  • Candidates are expected to meet the required cut off score in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
  • The required UTME subjects for MTBS are Mathematics, English, Economics or Commerce, Geography or Government.
  • Candidates are also required to have passed five (5) subjects at the Ordinary Level of WAEC/NECO/GCE or NABTEB.
  • The Required ‘O’ Level Subjects are English Language and Mathematics and any other three subjects from the following: Economics, Geography, Commerce, Accounts/Business Studies/Statistics, Government, History, Home Economics/Marketing, Literature in English/French and Additional Mathematics/Biology.

– Fisheries Technology (HND)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • National Diploma from a recognized Institution (NBTE- Accredited) with at least Lower Credit in relevant courses, as well as five (5) credit passes at SSCE, GCE, NECO and NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, English Language and any other subject from the following: Physics, Economics, Additional Mathematics and Geography.
  • Evidence of successful completion of Post- National Diploma Industrial Training programme with at least one (1) year experience.

– Fisheries Technology (ND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the ND Fisheries Technology programme is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

  • Candidates are expected to meet the required cut off score in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
  • The required UTME subjects are Mathematics, English, Biology/Agriculture, Chemistry.
  • Candidates are also required to have five ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any other Science or Social Science subject.
– Marine Engineering Technology (ND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the ND Marine Engineering programme is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

  • Candidates are expected to meet the required cut off score in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
  • The required UTME subjects for Marine Engineering are Mathematics, English, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Candidates are also required to have passed five (5) subjects at the Ordinary Level of WAEC/NECO/GCE or NABTEB.
  • The Required ‘O’ Level Subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any one (1) from Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science and Geography.

– Nautical Science (ND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the ND Nautical Science programme is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

  • Candidates are expected to meet the required cut off score in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
  • The required UTME subjects for Nautical Science are Mathematics, English, Physics and Geography.
  • Candidates are also required to have passed five (5) subjects at the Ordinary Level of WAEC/NECO/GCE or NABTEB.
  • The Required ‘O’ Level Subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Geography and any one (1) of Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Economics/Commerce.

– Industrial and Labour Relations (ND)

REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the ND Industrial and Labour Relations programme is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Candidates are expected to meet the required cut off score in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The required UTME subjects are Mathematics, Economics plus one other relevant subject. Other required qualifications are:

  1. WASC/SSCE/GCE “O” level or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects including mathematics, English Language obtained at not more than two sittings and three others from Economics/ Commerce, Government, Book Keeping / Accounting and Literature in English OR
  2. Teachers Grade II Certificate at merit / Credit level in five (5) relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language OR
  3. Those with higher qualifications such as ND, HND or university degree but little or no knowledge of Industrial and Labour Relations may apply.
